A suspended policeman searches for the evidence to link a businessman with a murder in this continuing story drama series conspicuously modelled on The Fugitive. It was dumped after five weeks, perhaps due to its unpleasant central character.
The Goddesses
Psychiatrist lends her country house to patient, expecting she would repose. But she meets a neurotic former lover, and the psychiatrist gets so involved in the couple's problems that she ends up getting dependent of them.
The Gambler
This lavish Soviet/Czech co-production is based on Fyodor Dostoyevsky's famous novel, The Gambler, which tells the story of a Russian living in Germany, in a gambling resort. This film is set at the turn of the century, and was filmed in Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad), Czechoslovakia. Played by Nikolai Burlyayev, the gambler succumbs completely to his addiction, using up every resource he has (human, spiritual and financial) in his wagering, finally becoming a rootless drifter.
The Killer
Chiao Tzu Wei hires a killer under the premise that the local government (run by the local kung fu school) is corrupt and extorting the people of the town. The killer happens to be Hsieh Chun (aka Hsiao Hu) who left town ten years ago. (When Hsieh Chun opens up a suitcase full of knives, you know that there is going to be tons of killing!). Thinking that the local kung fu school is bad, he goes over there to fight them. There is some reuniting of lost friends and some love between two of them. The bad guys are constantly double crossing everyone and this leads to total mayhem and carnage. The final fight scene (which is actually several fight scenes going from one to the next) is incredible, especially the blood soaked finale between the evil Japanese leader of the opium ring and the two brothers.
The Organization
The Greatrick Organization is a faceless, multi-million-pound concern dedicated to making more millions. In its headquarters we meet an assortment of middle and junior executives. Their lives may look cozy enough, but appearances are deceptive. All they have to do is carry on being loyal corporate slaves until they're 60 or 65, but there are a hundred different ways to put a foot wrong...
